Who is your favorite trainer/Which training videos are your favorite?
I was looking to purchase some training videos, and I wanted to know which ones everyone liked.
I grew up with horses and am a very experienced rider. I’ve owned horses all my life, I am not a first time horse owner. I’m just looking to expand my knowledge because I’ve just started training horses on my own.
I would definitely suggest the Parelli program, although it is a little costly and time consuming. It is totally worth it, I have seen some completely insane horses totally reform in to proper little creatures that have a deep bond with their owner. The video series is great that they sell, i think the complete set is around $400. Most of the equipment that Parelli sells you can make yourself, or buy on eBay for much cheaper. The downside to Parelli (besides the cost), is that some of your stable friends might roll their eyes at you. Go to www.parelli.com to check the stuff out. He also does a U.S. tour. If you are not wanting to spring for the 400$ set of training video (totally worth it though), I would suggest that you checkout his book, “Natural Horsemanship”. It’s a really good introduction to his training methods, and I think you will find that he is kind of hilarious.
My all time favorite book is Sally Swift’s “Centered Riding”. It’s a bit old fashioned but I swear by it, and so does my trainer.
Another good book is “Teach your horse perfect Manners” by Kelly Marks. She incorporates a wide range of methods, but is particularly fond of Intelligent Horsemanship by Monty Roberts. I love her section on “Joining Up”, and have used it with several horses. “Joining up” is a phrase coined by Monty Roberts, so you might also want to look into his Intelligent Horsemanship Programs.
